John Howell, Holland High School/1978
In 1983 Howell was driving home from WLAV AM/Grand Rapids around midnight on a Saturday night. He was hit head-on by a drunk driver going the wrong way on an expressway just west of downtown. Both cars going 65mph around the same curve in the same lane in opposite directions. John never saw it coming. Police confirmed that no brakes were applied in either car. Howell walked away and still buckles up every time.
